A Deep Dive into Microneedling – Is it Safe?

What is Microneedling?

In simple terms, microneedling is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure, which is designed to generate new collagen and skin tissue and create the appearance of smoother, firmer and more toned skin.

The process itself involves pricking the skin with a number of tiny, sterilised needles, which subsequently encourages your body to generate more collagen and elastic as part of the healing process.

It’s this that creates the appearance of younger and firmer skin, especially when microneedling treatments are carried out regularly over time.

Introducing the ‘Dermapen’

Here at KG Aesthetics, we administer microneedling treatment using a ‘Dermapen’.

This is a dedicated treatment device that utilises 16 fine needles to puncture the top layer of the epidermis, triggering the process of healing and stimulation of collagen immediately.

But how does the dermapen work? Well, the device is held vertically over the treatment area, before a small motor is activated and the needles start to penetrate the skin.

They do this by making a series of rapid, back-and-forth motions, with the needles continuing to rotate and open up the skin’s pores while kick-starting the natural healing process. It’s during this time that the body stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin, gradually rejuvenating your skin and leaving it fresher and firmer than before!

Risk vs Reward – Is Microneedling Safe?

At its core, microneedling is a safe and non-invasive cosmetic treatment, and one that provides a convenient alternative to facial fillers and surgical procedures.

The use of a patented and dedicated treatment device like the dermapen makes the procedure even safer, while enabling it to effectively tackle a wider range of cosmetic skin conditions.

Of course, there are some instances where you may want to avoid microneedling treatments. For example, they may not be suitable for people with clotting or bleeding disorders (or take medicine to thin their blood), as microneedling can cause slight bleeding around the treatment area.

Similarly, you’ll want to check with your treatment provider if you have chronic conditions that affect your skin, such as diabetes or eczema.

Otherwise, however, the minimal safety risks associated with microneedling and potential side-effects (which may include minor swelling, redness and skin flaking alongside bleeding) are far outweighed by its benefits, especially when being treated by a reputable provider like KG Aesthetics.

For example, regular microneedling treatments can gradually reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while eradicating stretch marks and cosmetic scars.

Frequent treatments may also help to reduce the size of enlarged pores, which have the capacity to cause long-term conditions like acne if not corrected.

The Last Word

Remember, microneedling can also help to tighten and tone your skin, making it appear younger and smoother over time.

This means that the treatment and dermapen device have a broad and appealing range of applications, each of which can be carried out safely and efficiently at a licensed practitioner like KG Aesthetics.
